Adopted Spring 1998

Bonnie

This two-year-old collie was only a day or two away from being euthanized at a local animal shelter when we decided to take her in. Evidently a very mild case of mange had discouraged any interest in this lovely, gentle dog and thus marked her as an unadoptable stray. Kate was drawn to her immediately, but Carmen was a little less enthusiastic about taking on a new dog. (We had just lost Millie, another of our Scotties.) Fortunately for everyone, after a few trips to walk Bonnie around the shelter grounds, Carmen was won over by the dog's quiet dignity and grace.

From the day she stepped into our house, she's been a gift. Possessing impeccable manners, and some basic obedience training, the collie slipped right into the daily routine of living with our two aging Scotties. And with steadfast determination, she approached our cat over and over again until the hissing finally stopped. Intelligent and loyal, Bonnie soon proved to be a wonderful watchdog, raising the alarm if anyone approached the house. She loves to go on car rides and will sit in the back seat for hours, endlessly patient as long as she's with us while we run our errands.

We can't help but wonder how such a splendid dog ended up as a stray. She shows every sign of having been loved at one time. Whatever the circumstances of her misfortune, however, she's found a new home where she is treasured.
