"Hop Scotch"

Kate's Comments: This is the largest painting I've started to date, and my intent here was to work with a bolder composition, something its larger size could accomodate and still allow me the freedom for those bold brushstrokes.

This piece has undergone three major underpaintings, with the blocking in of the Scotties the last element to be addressed. It's certainly my most ambitious piece, and I'm curious how it will turn out! So many paintings of dogs consist of rather formal and static poses, but I hope to develop a style that incorporates a more animated subject, with the emphasis on the painting as a whole rather than disproportionately on the subject.

I have a long way to go in developing this personal style and regaining my "painters legs", but each successive painting has its own lesson to teach me and takes me one more step along the way.
